One study indicates that among people shaved the day prior to their operations, the nosocomial infection rate was 5.6 percent. Chemical depilatories reduce the rate to just 0.6 percent. Using barber clippers to remove hair the morningof surgery yields a low infection rate too.
• Have nurses regularly check the drainage of urinary catheters to help you maintain cleanliness.
